King's Scout Award

The Highest Achievement in Venturer Scouts

The King's Scout Award is the Peak Award for the Venturer Scout Section and is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious youth awards in Australia. It recognises exceptional commitment to leadership, personal development, community involvement, and adventure throughout a Venturer Scout's journey.

The King's Scout Award challenges Venturers to take ownership of their development, pursue ambitious goals, and demonstrate the skills and values gained through Scouting. It is a significant achievement that showcases dedication, perseverance, leadership, and service.

What Do I Need to Complete?

To achieve the King's Scout Award, a Venturer Scout must complete the following requirements.

⭐ Milestone 3

Milestones recognise a Venturer's active participation and leadership within the Unit. To achieve Milestone 3, Venturers participate, assist, and lead activities across the four Challenge Areas:

  • Community Challenge
  • Creative Challenge
  • Outdoor Challenge
  • Personal Growth Challenge

This demonstrates a commitment to personal growth while taking increasing responsibility for leading and supporting others.

🏕️ Outdoor Adventure Skills

Venturer Scouts must achieve:

  • Stage 5 in each of the three Core Outdoor Adventure Skills:
    • Bushcraft
    • Bushwalking
    • Camping
  • A total of 12 Outdoor Adventure Skill stage progressions
  • At least 4 stage progressions at Stage 4 or above

These requirements encourage Venturers to develop advanced outdoor skills and broaden their experience across a range of adventurous activities.

🌟 Special Interest Areas

Venturer Scouts must complete:

  • Six Special Interest Area projects
  • Across at least three different Special Interest Areas
  • Each project must involve a minimum of 12 hours of effort
  • Follow the Plan • Do • Review process

These projects allow Venturers to pursue personal interests, develop expertise, and demonstrate initiative in areas they are passionate about.

🥾 Adventurous Journey

Venturer Scouts must complete an Adventurous Journey of at least four days and three nights.

The journey must be youth-led and requires significant planning, preparation, teamwork, and self-reliance. It provides an opportunity to apply outdoor skills and leadership in a challenging and rewarding environment.

🧭 Leadership or Personal Development Course

Venturer Scouts must complete a Leadership Course or Personal Development Course of at least a weekend in duration.

These courses focus on developing advanced leadership, communication, teamwork, planning, and personal development skills that support both Scouting and everyday life.

💭 Personal Reflection

The final step is a Personal Reflection.

Venturers reflect on their journey through the section, discussing the challenges they have overcome, the skills they have developed, the experiences they have enjoyed, and the personal growth they have achieved. This reflection is completed with peers and adult support.

The Journey to the Award

The King's Scout Award is far more than completing a checklist of requirements. It represents years of commitment to personal growth, leadership development, community service, and adventure.

Those who achieve the award have demonstrated initiative, resilience, responsibility, and a willingness to challenge themselves. They leave the Venturer Scout Section with valuable skills, memorable experiences, and friendships that often last a lifetime.

The King's Scout Award is a celebration of leadership, service, adventure, and personal achievement, recognising Venturer Scouts who have reached the pinnacle of their section and are ready for the next stage of their Scouting journey.
