Cardiff Scout Group

For more than 85 years, Cardiff Scout Group has been helping young people in the Cardiff area discover adventure, develop leadership skills, and build lifelong friendships. Established in 1940, our Group has proudly served the local community by providing a safe, inclusive, and youth-focused Scouting program that empowers young people to grow into capable, confident, and responsible citizens.

As part of the Lake Macquarie City District within the Hunter & Coastal Region of Scouts NSW, we offer a diverse range of activities and opportunities for young people to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and make a positive contribution to their community.

Our Sections

Scouting provides age-appropriate programs that grow with young people through each stage of their development:

• Joey Scouts (5–8 years)
• Cub Scouts (8–11 years)
• Scouts (11–15 years)
• Venturer Scouts (15–18 years)
• Rover Scouts (18–25 years)

Each section offers exciting experiences tailored to the interests, abilities, and developmental needs of its members while building on the skills learned in previous sections- but you can commence your journey at any stage, even as an adult.

Adventure Awaits

Scouting is all about learning by doing. Our members are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and experience adventures that build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership.

Activities regularly available through Scouting include:

• Bushwalking and hiking
• Off-road cycling
• Canoeing and kayaking
• Archery
• Abseiling
• Camping and outdoor living
• Navigation and survival skills
• Community service projects
• Leadership development opportunities

Whether it's a weekend camp, a challenging expedition, or a local community project, Scouts are constantly discovering new skills and creating lasting memories.

Peak Award Pathways

Scouting offers a progressive learning and achievement pathway across all sections. Members can work towards the peak award in their section by completing personal challenges, developing leadership skills, participating in adventurous activities, and contributing to their communities.

These prestigious Peak Awards recognise commitment, personal growth, and achievement, and provide young people with valuable skills that benefit them throughout their lives.

Attaining the Peak Award is not on everyone's radar and if it isn't, that is not an issue. You can still have the same fun and learning opportunities as those pursuing the Award.

Events and Major Activities

Throughout the year, members have the opportunity to participate in a range of local, regional, and state events, including:

• Rabbitskin (Joeys and Cubs)
• Region Rally (Scouts)
• State Rally (Scouts)
• Dragonskin (Venturers)

These events bring Scouts together from across the region and state to test their skills, enjoy friendly competition, meet new people, and share unforgettable Scouting experiences.

Proudly Volunteer Run

Cardiff Scout Group is entirely volunteer-run. Our Leaders are dedicated volunteers who generously give their time to mentor, teach, and support young people through the Scouting program. They provide a safe and encouraging environment where young people can learn, grow, and thrive.

We are always looking for community-minded people who are passionate about helping young people reach their potential. Whether you have outdoor skills, leadership experience, administrative abilities, or simply a desire to make a difference, volunteering with Scouts is a rewarding way to help shape the next generation of upstanding citizens.
