The Highest Achievement in Joey Scouts

The Joey Scout Challenge Award is the Peak Award for the Joey Scout Section and represents the highest achievement a Joey Scout can earn before progressing to Cub Scouts. It recognises a Joey's participation, learning, personal growth, and commitment throughout their Scouting journey.

The award brings together all the key elements of the Scouts Youth Program, encouraging Joey Scouts to experience adventure, develop skills, contribute to their community, and reflect on what they have learned.

What Do I Need to Complete?

To achieve the Joey Scout Challenge Award, a Joey Scout must complete the following requirements.

⭐ Milestone 3

Milestones recognise active participation in the Scouting program. To achieve Milestone 3, Joey Scouts participate, assist, and lead activities across the four Challenge Areas:

• Community Challenge
• Creative Challenge
• Outdoor Challenge
• Personal Growth Challenge

This demonstrates growing confidence, involvement, and leadership within the Unit.

🏕️ Outdoor Adventure Skills

Joey Scouts must achieve Stage 1 in each of the three Core Outdoor Adventure Skills:

• Bushcraft
• Bushwalking
• Camping

These skills help build a foundation for outdoor adventure and prepare Joey Scouts for future experiences in Scouting.

🌟 Special Interest Areas

Joey Scouts must complete:

• Six Special Interest Area projects
• Across at least two different Special Interest Areas
• Each project must involve a minimum of two hours of effort
• Follow the Plan • Do • Review process

These projects allow Joey Scouts to explore their own interests and passions while learning new skills. 

🥾 Adventurous Journey

Joey Scouts must participate in an Adventurous Journey lasting at least three hours.

The journey should include opportunities to help plan, take part in, and reflect on the adventure, developing teamwork, confidence, and outdoor skills. 

💭 Personal Reflection

The final step is a Personal Reflection.

Joey Scouts look back on their time in the section and discuss what they have learned, the challenges they have overcome, their favourite experiences, and how they have grown. This reflection is completed with the support of peers and Leaders.

The Journey to the Award

The Joey Scout Challenge Award isn't about completing a single activity. It's about participating in the full Joey Scout program, trying new things, learning new skills, helping others, and having adventures.

By completing the requirements, Joey Scouts demonstrate that they have embraced the values of Scouting and are ready for the next stage of their Scouting journey.
