The Highest Achievement in Cub Scouts

The Grey Wolf Award is the Peak Award for the Cub Scout Section and represents the highest achievement a Cub Scout can earn before progressing to Scouts. It recognises a Cub's commitment to adventure, learning, leadership, personal development, and participation throughout their Cub Scout journey.

The award brings together all the key elements of the Scouts Youth Program, encouraging Cub Scouts to challenge themselves, develop new skills, take on leadership opportunities, and reflect on their growth and achievements.

What Do I Need to Complete?

To achieve the Grey Wolf Award, a Cub Scout must complete the following requirements.

⭐ Milestone 3

Milestones recognise active participation and increasing responsibility within the Scouting program. To achieve Milestone 3, Cub Scouts participate, assist, and lead activities across the four Challenge Areas:

• Community Challenge
• Creative Challenge
• Outdoor Challenge
• Personal Growth Challenge

This demonstrates growing confidence, teamwork, and leadership within the Pack.

🏕️ Outdoor Adventure Skills

Cub Scouts must achieve:

• Stage 3 in each of the three Core Outdoor Adventure Skills:
  • Bushcraft
  • Bushwalking
  • Camping
• A total of 8 Outdoor Adventure Skill stage progressions

These achievements build practical outdoor skills and encourage Cub Scouts to broaden their experiences through adventure. 

🌟 Special Interest Areas

Cub Scouts must complete:

• Six Special Interest Area projects
• Across at least two different Special Interest Areas
• Each project must involve a minimum of four hours of effort
• Follow the Plan • Do • Review process

These projects provide opportunities for Cub Scouts to explore personal interests, develop new skills, and pursue activities they are passionate about.

🥾 Adventurous Journey

Cub Scouts must participate in an Adventurous Journey lasting at least four hours.

The journey encourages Cub Scouts to take part in planning, preparation, and reflection while developing teamwork, resilience, and outdoor skills.

🧭 Leadership or Personal Development Course

Cub Scouts must complete a Leadership Course or Personal Development Course of at least one day's duration.

These courses help develop confidence, communication, leadership, teamwork, and personal growth skills that can be applied both within and beyond Scouting.

💭 Personal Reflection

The final step is a Personal Reflection.

Cub Scouts review their journey through the section, reflecting on their achievements, challenges, learning experiences, and personal growth. This reflection is completed with the support of peers and Leaders.

The Journey to the Award

The Grey Wolf Award is more than a collection of badges and achievements. It represents a Cub Scout's willingness to embrace adventure, develop new skills, contribute to their community, and take increasing responsibility for their own learning and growth.

By completing the requirements, Cub Scouts demonstrate they have made the most of the opportunities available in the section and are ready to take the next step into the Scout Section.
