The Highest Achievement in the Scout Section

The Australian Scout Award is the Peak Award for the Scout Section and represents the highest achievement a Scout can earn before progressing to Venturer Scouts. It recognises a Scout's commitment to leadership, personal growth, outdoor adventure, and community involvement throughout their Scouting journey.

The Australian Scout Award challenges Scouts to take increasing responsibility for their learning, develop advanced outdoor skills, contribute to their community, and embrace the spirit of adventure that lies at the heart of Scouting. It is a significant milestone and demonstrates a Scout's readiness for the next stage of their Scouting journey. 

What Do I Need to Complete?

To achieve the Australian Scout Award, a Scout must complete the following requirements.

⭐ Milestone 3

Milestones recognise active participation and leadership within the Scouting program. To achieve Milestone 3, Scouts participate, assist, and lead activities across the four Challenge Areas:

• Community Challenge
• Creative Challenge
• Outdoor Challenge
• Personal Growth Challenge

This demonstrates a Scout's ability to take initiative, contribute to their Patrol and Unit, and increasingly lead others.

🏕️ Outdoor Adventure Skills

Scouts must achieve:

• Stage 5 in each of the three Core Outdoor Adventure Skills:
  • Bushcraft
  • Bushwalking
  • Camping
• A total of 10 Outdoor Adventure Skill stage progressions

These requirements develop advanced outdoor knowledge, leadership, and practical skills while encouraging Scouts to broaden their experiences across multiple adventure areas. 

🌟 Special Interest Areas

Scouts must complete:

• Six Special Interest Area projects
• Across at least three different Special Interest Areas
• Each project must involve a minimum of eight hours of effort
• Follow the Plan • Do • Review process

These projects encourage Scouts to explore their personal interests, pursue individual goals, and develop skills beyond the traditional Scouting environment. 

🥾 Adventurous Journey

Scouts must complete an Adventurous Journey of at least three days and two nights.

The journey is youth-led and requires planning, preparation, teamwork, navigation, and self-sufficiency. It provides an opportunity to apply learning in a real-world outdoor environment while developing confidence and resilience.

🧭 Leadership or Personal Development Course

Scouts must complete a Leadership Course or Personal Development Course of at least a weekend in duration.

These courses help develop leadership, communication, teamwork, planning, and self-management skills while preparing Scouts to take on greater responsibility within their Unit and beyond. 

💭 Personal Reflection

The final step is a Personal Reflection.

Scouts reflect on their experiences, achievements, challenges, and personal development throughout their Scout journey. This reflection allows them to recognise how they have grown and identify how Scouting has helped shape them as individuals.

The Journey to the Award

The Australian Scout Award is more than a collection of activities and badges. It represents a Scout's commitment to challenging themselves, embracing adventure, developing leadership skills, and making a positive contribution to their community.

Those who achieve the award have demonstrated resilience, initiative, teamwork, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone. They have made the most of the opportunities available in Scouts and are well prepared to continue their journey into the Venturer Scout Section.

The Australian Scout Award is a celebration of adventure, leadership, service, and personal growth, recognising Scouts who have reached the pinnacle of achievement within the Scout Section.
