Venturer Scouts turning adversity into opportunity
Published Sun 05 Jul 2026
What an EPIC day we had on Saturday! Youth‑led, youth‑organised events just hit different — they know exactly what young people love, and wow… they delivered BIG time.
Huge shoutout to Venturer Scout Hugo, the mastermind behind it all. When the school’s end‑of‑semester music event was cancelled after the fire, he called and asked if we could host it at the Scout Hall. Of course we said yes — our musos (Static Embers!) needed their moment.
Hugo and the Venturer crew — Josh and Vincent — pulled off something incredible. Council approvals, risk assessments, activity plans… they tackled it all with patience, flexibility and determination. So many lessons learned, and every one worth it.
And the event? Absolutely magic.
There was a moment where I just stopped and took it all in — our grounds full of teenagers creating, performing, showcasing their talent. Teens are so often hit with ageist assumptions, but yesterday was proof of how wrong that is. One band told us how grateful they were because under‑18s rarely get a space to perform. Most venues are pubs — off limits. Knowing Cardiff Scout Group could give them that platform? Heart‑warming.
Thank you, Hugo, for leading the charge (and somehow being both sound‑check crew AND performer). Thank you to every band who said yes — many of you took time off work to be there. And thank you to the audience who brought the energy and made the day unforgettable.
Massive love to our Scout Volunteers — including our Venturer Scout Xavier for taking the lead in being photographer, Scout Wesley, our resident math-wiz for taking the lead in managing the fundraiser money, all our wonderful adult helpers who helped look after BBQ and cake stall, gate crew, videographer and Neil with his Zen‑level calm fixing sound issues.
Thanks to our Scouting friends from Carey Bay Toronto Scout Group, and Scout youth from Teralba, 1st Belmont and Kotara Scout Group. And so many Glendale High students showing up to support.
My heart is full. This was a true community event that brought people together on our beautiful grounds at Cardiff Scout Hall.
Fingers and toes crossed we get to do it again — even bigger, even better.
